Whatever it Takes

In the captured photograph of Aline Marie praying outside St. Rose of Lima church in Newtown Conn, the photojournalist sneakily captures a photo of a woman in great trauma of grief without her notice. This would be considered a strong shot that could speak many words for the family and friends related to the mass shooting in Newtown Connecticut but in no way shape or form should someone going through a grieving process have their photo taken if they do not feel comfortable, especially if they are praying at the time. If the roles were reversed and my photo was being taken while I prayed for my loved ones that I may have lost due to the shooting or praying for friends and families that lost loved ones, I would not be able to handle someone taking my photo at this time of sadness. In this specific situation, I do not believe anyone should be able to capture a photo of someone praying, kneeling towards a higher power, looking for guidance through this breathtaking times. No one should h...

Ethics in Photojournalism

Image
Ethics  In this diagram above I express large feelings towards honesty, trustworthy, and respect. These three ethics reveal my true expression towards my most worthy values. Honesty should play a large role in anyone's lives, more importantly how honesty is involved in the relationships you have with people. Being able to care enough about another and allowing them to trust you with specific things is important in human interaction. Knowing that you would be viewed as a person who can be trusted and be able to justify everything that comes with it. In any ethics conversation a value of being able to be respected is important in life. Kevin Carter 1993 Sudan  This photo questioned the ethics of the photographer. Understanding that this small malnouirshed girl could become a meal for a wild animal, should in no way, be presented as work of art by another human. The photo provides the heartache and sadness in what could be this young girls future just by glan...

Female Triumphs and Trials

Nichole Sobecki is a photojournalist that has been stationed in Kenya since 1986. Her personal website reads, “Nichole's work has been recognized by Pictures of the Year, the One World Media Awards, the Alexandra Boulat Award for Photojournalism, The Magenta Foundation, and The Jacob Burns Film Center, among others.” She has become a large contributor in Africa who promotes images to be captured on continent-wide mobile camera phones to take photos and capture images when the press cannot. Ms. Sobecki’s goal is to create and capture photographs that will involve the feeling and emotions that the picture brings with it, throughout the conflict, happiness, and humanity.  Another courageous woman is Lindsay Addario who was abducted with her crew of three other men in Libya covering news during dangerous times. Unfortunately not only did she get kidnapp...

Chapter Five - Opioid Crisis Project

Image
Related Discussion   The Opioid crisis has been a prominent presence in the US and globally for quite a few years. Everyone is in touch with someone in someway who has been affected by this epidemic. In this case, my older brother of 2 years has had a horrible and frightening run with opioid addiction. I wanted to create an interview of the negative effects that came out from his experience with the drug, fortunately enough, he has not been involved with this since last year due to helpful restrictions through family and friend support and addiction centers. The objective of my midterm was to involve an ongoing discussion that would contain the negative effects that come with using and getting involved with opioids instead of using alternative non-addictive pain killers. Interview questions: For an easier understanding, I wanted to know the usage. How long were you using and under the influence, and h ow often were you using throughout this period? (every day, we...

Working in the Digital Age

Image
Water Proof Digital HD Camera  The pre digital age was unspokenly a different time period in the aspect of a photojournalist. The digital age opened up larger windows for exposure of the world like having the ability to see what's under the water. Without positive advancements in photojournalism, some of the uncovered parts of the world would never have been seen till this day.  Before Digital capturing of photos and before digital memory, photographers, photojournalist and anyone trying to capture an important view couldn't make this possible. Even with their efforts, memory on cameras only lasted a short enough time to be downloaded and uploaded on a flash drive or computer of some sort. Digital memory is beyond precious to anyone trying to bring new revelations to a camera's perspective with their canvas. In the pre, digital age cameras and camera lenses were only capable of certain things that involved capturing still photography with limited light. In today...
