Principle #1:Subject’s Expression
- The subject in this photo is near death and is close to starvation, calm and gently resting so the exertion of energy is minimal. The subject seems to have his or her eyes shut due to pain from being male nurished. In no way shape or form was this photo created by the photojournalist who took the photo at the time, the poor child seems to have no motivation to show face or get up and move due to the lack of strength.
Principle #2 KEEP IT SIMPLE
- The photographs composition consist of two main objects, the small helpless child and the hungry eager vulture.
Principle #3: What feelings does the image create?
- This image creates disgust and sadness upon the viewer, and also a helpless feeling. The image captured my attention by the young child being seen as food to a wild animal because of the awful circumstances the child has grown up in. The volture creates a suspense with not knowing what will happen in the end of the terrible situation this child is in but also looking into this knowing that maybe the photojournalist that took the photo would help the child who is in dire need of it.
Why did I choose the image?:
- I chose this image due to its large effect it has on the viewer once realizing the harsh conditions this photo must be taken in. Aslo choosing this image due to all the multiple meanings it has been composed of with the wildlife aspect of things.

Principle #1:  Subject’s Expression
-Many of the wounded soldiers are under trees, Marye's Heights, Fredericksburg, after fighting in combat. They do not look over posed but are looking forward to whoever is taking the photo at the time. None of the soldiers are blinking and most to almost all soldiers are in a cold tired steer from being bombarded from battle.
Principle #2:  Texture
-The texture of the photograph is rough and very blurred around the edges of the frame. THis photo helps create a depressed feeling.
Principle #3:  Is the image black & white or color?
-The image is black and white with an impact that provides a cold unforgiven look, and at the time the photographer had no choice but to provide color to this gloomy photograph.

Why did I choose the image?: I chose this image due to the feeling of the men that have been scared or have PTSD from the battle they were just exposed to and maybe getting back too when help comes. Also many of the men in the photo provide a tough roughed look that makes the viewer see into the pain and suffering these men might have endured.

Principle #1:  Depth of field Is the right amount of area in focus?  Does the image use shallow or great depth of field? How does the depth of field direct your attention?
-The depth of field is the right amount of focus, focusing on the mother and her two children. The image uses shallow depth of field, only targeting the mother and her children. The depth of field directs my attention only on the mother and her two children.
Principle #2:  Use of shadows How were shadows used?
-Shadows were used the make the mothers face seem more depressed than what it actually was staged to be. Also the shadows didn't allow a clear look into the background of what lies behind the mother.

Principle #3:  Rule of thirds Did the photographer avoid placing the subject in the middle of the frame? Did the photographer place the main subject off center?  If you divide the photograph into thirds, horizontally or vertically, is the main subject placed in one of the outer thirds?
-The photographer placed the focus directly on the mother and her two children. The photographer did not place the main subject off centered. The mother is the middle section and the two children are the second and third outer regions of the photos frame.
Why did I choose the image?: I chose this photo due to the stage of the photographer applying his or hers photojournalist skills to the mother and her two children. I also chose this picture due to the black and white shaded image and the context material.
